My art is definitely mixed media. Most of the “paintings” utilize a variety of materials, and I use different materials in different pieces. The images are sorted by technique and in approximately chronological order within the categories. Click on each image below to go to that gallery.

Circle Paintings on Unstretched Canvas

In the current conjunction of global emergencies I find it necessary to use my art to make statements about social and environmental justice as well as world peace.

As a board member of LELA International, I have the privilege of participating in an annual art exhibition in memory of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki during World War II.

Ordinarily I shy away from “art” as a product. To me art-making is about the process. When I was a small child I used to watch clothes going around in the washing machine. My mother thought it was pretty funny. I’ve always been fascinated by watching materials interact, whether it is fabric and water or paint and canvas.

River 2019

There is loveliness in the world, and even terrible things have a certain harmony: light and dark, seemingly good and seemingly bad.

99 Flowers #3, acrylic on canvas. 2021. $2500

I compose my pieces while listening to music. In the last 5 years it has been mainly Persian classical music, which is full of passion, longing for love, tenderness and harmony.

I offer my art as a contribution to beauty, love and graciousness. I write poetry about nature in the cosmos and within myself. Some of the pieces incorporate the written words when poems and art coincide.

The constraint of the framed rectangular piece of canvas often frustrates me. Other times I’m fine with it, but not usually. I’ve done a series about deconstructing a piece of paper by painting, collaging, tearing and sewing the result to bird netting. The deconstruction has a point however. The constraint of self prevents me from loving.

broken bowl #4. mixed media. 2022.

You can see that I kind of contradict myself. Well, we humans are complicated creatures.
